Life Quote of the Day: Can You Afford to Shine

Life Quote of the Day: Can You Afford to Shine

Life Quote of the Day:
“Stars can’t shine without Darkness.” D.H. Sidebottom

I need you to join me on the crazy train. Let us go back in time before you decided to take an assignment on planet Earth.  Are you with me? Okay, so imagine that you told your Soul Incarnation Team that you wanted to be songwriter—but not just any songwriter. You wanted to write a timeless hit song that pulled at the heartstrings of every person who heard it.

Your S.I.T (Soul Incarnation Team) warned you that maybe you should reconsider and dabble in writing lyrics as a part-time hobby whereby you may experience at best mediocre success as a songwriter but your life on Earth will have more balance to enjoy a variety of mundane activities. Perhaps growing old to see great grandchildren; retiring from your newspaper editor job after 35 years of loyal service –you may be given a gold watch. Nothing too fantastic or drastic.

You tell them, “No, no, no not by any means do I want my life mission on planet Earth to approach mundane. I want it all or nothing.” They explain to you that in order for you to have the intellectual, psychological, and sociological experience to write such a song your earth suit must be exposed to certain dark conditions and elements that will position you to shine. You must experience something that will force you to travel in the darkest places of the human heart to write such a song.

Before jumping into your earth suit, you wink and tell them, “Make me shine.”
~~~
I am quite sure that Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles had the same conversation with their S.I.T, but Roger Penzabene told them flat out that there was absolutely, positively no way, that he was going to agree to literal darkness. Yet, Penzabene still insisted that he wanted to shine as a songwriter.
Roger Penzabene wrote the songs, “I Wish it Would Rain,” “You’re My Everything,” and “I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)” to articulate the pain of his broken heart when he learned that his wife had cheated on him with another man. Because he couldn’t stop loving her or live without her despite what she had done; 23-year-old, Penzabene committed suicide on New Year’s Eve in 1967.
I am quite sure that Martin Luther King, Harriett Tubman, John Brown, and Frederick Douglas had similar conversations with their S.I.T.
The darkness in your life is the backdrop that has positioned you to shine. It is your story of grit and grace.When others see you shining-- the light of your success blinds them, but they don’t know the story of the shadows behind the shine.
Life Quotes Practical Application
1.      Everything has a direct and indirect cost. You must ask yourself whether you are willing to pay the spiritual price for what you want. Are you willing to miss several nights of sleep in  a row, studying from sun up to sun down to be a medical doctor? Are you willing to twist the truth in order to be a politician? If you want to be a stunningly gorgeous actress who wins an Oscar you must be willing to get ugly, naked, or both. Ask Halle Barry and Charlize Theron.
2.    Never envy another person’s success unless you are willing to go through everything (I do mean everything) that person went through to get to where they are today. They were prepped for their positions by demons of darkness that have never seen the light day. When you really want something, don’t forget to want all of it. If you want to be famous, accept the fact that photographers will want to take your picture and fans will interrupt you while you are eating. If you want to be a teacher, enjoy the disruptive students who like to throw spitballs, give wet willies, and never do their homework—not to mention the parents who love and support them. Remember to love the good and not so good aspects of the path that you have chosen- they are one and the same. They need each other to exist.
3.    Don’t be afraid of the dark- befriend it. Make peace with it. Ask the darkness: “To what do I owe thee, what spiritual contract did I sign because I wanted to shine?” Am I keeping my end of the deal? Did I write the song that I promised I would write? Have I started the book that haunts me each night? Am I living in the darkness because I am afraid to shine—now that I am here on earth? If I shine, will I lose my friends and family? Are you complaining about the darkness because in your heart—you are simply afraid of the light?
Life Quote of the Day -- Be Yourself
Life Quote of the Day
“Be Yourself people don’t have to like you, and you don’t have to care.”  Unknown
When I was a kid, I would come home from school crying to my parents about some of the cruel things that my classmates would say about me. I was mostly teased about my skin color being too dark. My mother would tell my brothers and I to say to the kids who teased us; “Sticks and stones my break my bones, but words could never hurt me.”
I bet there is not a single person reading this post who was not told this saying as a child. But, most importantly-- did you find out later that this little saying could not be further from the truth?
The quote of the Day “Be Yourself people don’t have to like you, and you don’t have to care.”   Ahhh—no we don’t have to care but how other people feel about us—however, unfortunately, our earth suit has been designed for us to care about what other people think of us. (Man, I wish I could disconnect this button.)
If you think about most of the most hurtful things that happened to you, I bet the things that hurt the most was not when you cut your finger while chopping onions; or when you fell off your bike going downhill; or when you dropped the can of beans on your baby toe. The most hurtful thing that have ever been done to you is probably something that a teacher, friend, mate, or parent has said to crush your soul intentionally or not intentionally.
People tell you to be yourself. However, this is not what they really mean. Society says be yourself—but you need to be this size and weigh this amount in order to be considered physically attractive. Parents say be yourself. But what they really mean is, “I want you to be yourself within the unstated boundaries of following the life course that I find acceptable. I hope that being yourself does not mean that you are going to be an artist, actor, or waitress.”
We as a society tell people every day to be themselves—but we don’t really mean it all.
Your mate tells you, I want you to be yourself, but… I hate the way you smack your food when you are eating. I don’t like how flirtatious you are with other people. (You called it charming when you first met.)  I don’t like the fact that you watch sports all day or reality television shows. Even though this person had these characteristics when you first started dating them… over time, when we are comfortable in the relationship we start to ask people to change. We begin to tell them that being why you are is… frankly not enough.
We learn early in life that being our true selves has negative consequences. The first people we learn to please are our parents. When we eat when we are not hungry, our parents praise us. When we share our toys and candy, that we really (really) did not want to share our parents praise us. The more we give in to our parent’s wishes the more it seems like they smile at us, play with us, and show us affection.
We learn early in life that our perception of self, self-worth, and self-esteem are tied to how other people view us—not how we view ourselves, not what we really want to do. Then we spend the rest of our adult lives trying to find balance… trying to reconnect to our authentic truth. Most of us have no idea who we are or what we believe in by the time we are 7-years-old.
How do you find the courage to be yourself—when the whole world is telling you who you should be? Here are some pointers to consider.
 Life Quotes | Practical Application
1.      Only 1% of the population are truly being themselves. And I guarantee you that these are people who reside in mental institutions. They don’t wear clothes when they don’t feel like it; they release themselves publicly; they don’t use utensils when eating mashed potatoes—they do whatever they want --whenever they feel like—except escape from the mental hospital. None of us are completely being ourselves. Find balance with being who you are and how it affects the people around you. Yes, we all want to indulge in an adult melt down every now then—but what are the consequences?
2.    One day you are going to leave this planet. What do you want new inhabitants of this planet to know about your stay on Earth?  I believe that when we say “be yourself” our collective higher selves are asking you to be clear about your soul’s purpose on this mission, and then execute without a single doubt, the biblical scripture “to thine own self be true.” Being yourself ultimately means that you must believe in yourself—even if no one else does. The next time you tell someone to be himself or herself, contemplate within your own spirit what your true expectations are. Do you really mean it?
3.     People who love you may have the best intentions, and think they know what you should do with your life. Only listen to people under these critical circumstances: Are they living their own dreams? Or are they living a life created for them by other people? Do they live in fear of failure? Have they accomplished their highest aspirations? Do they love you unconditionally, win, or lose? Have they ever done what you want to do? Do they live outside of their comfort zones? Are they an expert in what you want to do? What do they want in exchange for your obedience? What will they gain or lose directly and indirectly from you becoming your own greatest version of yourself?
Life Quote of the Day - Deceit is not Love
Quote of the Day:
Love  Quotes—Deceit is not Love
 “Love is many things, but it is never deceitful. Nothing  toxic comes from genuine love. Remember that.”  MYLKN Honey
There is nothing more attractive than a man who treats his women like a queen. He opens the door for her. He financially provides for her. He is emotionally supportive to her. He is respectful to her. Women adore men who honor, cherish, and respect their wives and girlfriends. Unfortunately, these are the type of men who become prey to single women who are seeking a relationship with a quality man who is not afraid of making a commitment.
What women don’t understand is that when they date a man who they know is already in a committed relationship—he is no longer the “quality man” that they initially admired.
Once he cheats on his wife or girlfriend to be with you-- you erode all of the essential qualities that made you fall in love with him in the first place.
This scenario applies to both men and women, but for now, I just want to focus on women. He is not innocent—but neither are you. This is why I love this life quote, by MYKLN Honey, “Love is many things, but it is never deceitful. Nothing toxic comes from genuine love. Remember that.”
Deep in your heart, you will never trust him in fear that some other woman will invade the boundaries of your relationship just as you did when you met him.
When my son was a young boy, he loved fireflies. He enjoyed watching them light up in the summer evenings. He loved fireflies so much that he would catch them in plastic cups. Then he would place a plastic saran wrap covering on top of the cup and secure it with a rubber band. Then he would punch holes in the top to give the fireflies oxygen.
He was always disappointed the next day because they would never light up again, before eventually dying.
When you take something or someone away from their element, you snuff out their magnetic light. The bright light that attracted you to them cannot shine at its brightest-- unless it is being authentic and honest.
Life Quotes |  Practical Application
1.      If you see a man (person) in a relationship that you are attracted to and he has all of the qualities that you want in a boyfriend or husband—know that by pursuing him you are changing what you love about him. He no longer embodies the ethical character traits of the type of man you “thought he was.”
2.      He is never going to love you the way he loves her—(his wife or girlfriend) because you are not her. You don’t know what qualities this woman is bringing to the table that make him come home to dinner every night. You just might be a rendezvous snack during a rough patch in their relationship.
3.      When you steal something, it never feels like it truly belongs to you. You will be constantly looking over your shoulders to see who he is texting, emailing, and talking to you. But, the woman you will fear the most is the woman you stole him from.
