Quit Your Job-- Here is How to Resign

Quit Your Job-- Here is How to Resign

Let the Universe Move You

Cassandra George Sturges

I am writing this  article about how to resign from a job to Trai Byers and anyone else on this planet who feels that they are stuck, want more out of life, and are unable to express the depth of their full God-given talents, abilities, and gifts with the world.

According to Page Six, actor Trai Byers, who plays the oldest son, Andre Lyon, on Fox’s  show Empire wants to leave the show because he thinks the show is “beneath him and doesn’t see how the show benefits him.” Byers graduated from Yale School of Drama.

I don't know if these rumors are true or not; but this is definitely not how to quit a job.

Janet Hubert played the original mom, Vivian Banks, on the television show “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” from 1990 to 1993. I remember hearing the same type of rumor about Hubert that she felt that her role on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was beneath her Julliard School education as well.

I am not sure about the conditions of, Ms. Hubert’s departure from the show—but what I do know is that she fell from the spotlight. She was my favorite Vivian bank.

The next time I heard anything about Ms. Hubert was in 2016 when she responded to some gossip that Wendy Williams said—and this made my heart ache.

There are millions, and millions, and millions of people in this world, who think to themselves everyday, "I want to quit my job"-- who would be willing to give anything to be in your shoes right now—and they would be grateful. Do you ever contemplate to yourself how many other graduates from the Yale School of Drama who are still looking for an acting break?

When it is your time to move forward, the Universe will move you. In my opinion, Tamar Braxton was not fired from The Real Show—the Universe moved her to higher ground. Quitting your job is a spiritual act of being ready for more  a decision to made with intuition and wisdom to guide you, and not the ego.

Trai, baby, you don’t know who is looking and waiting for you with the role of lifetime, but if you are out of sight you are out of mind. Maybe the person who is writing the ultimate role that you are looking for is still in high school, waiting to get out of jail, or writing the last chapter to the  play that will make you a super star.

Our dreams are always interconnected to the dreams of others. Behind the scenes, everything is shifting and moving into place to do the things for us that we cannot directly do for ourselves. The universe will not allow you, Trai, to destroy “the dream” that is being created with a negative attitude—at the cost of so many other souls. There are other writers, producers, actors, etc… who share this same dream. So, when one person loses the spiritual vibration of greatness another person with the same dream easily connects into the dream matrix.

I think NeNe Leakes from Atlanta Housewives learned this lesson quickly; this may be why she left the Atlanta Housewives show and came back. I believe that all of her acting opportunities stemmed from the spotlight of her Atlanta Housewives platform-- out of sight out of mind.

When you have learned the lessons that your soul has set out for you—you couldn’t stay where you are now, if you  desperately wanted to. Now, this could simply be a rumor about you wanting to leave the show Empire, but life has taught me this: -- where there is smoke there is fire.

You are doing an amazing job on Empire.  I love your character. You are my favorite Lyon’s brother, maybe this is why I have been spiritually moved to write this. Please don’t develop a reputation of someone who is difficult to work with.

Katherine Heigl left Grey’s Anatomy, was a main character in a few romantic movies and the last time I saw her she was a cat psychologist in a commercial for cat food. I love her too. I think she is gorgeous and I watch “27 Dresses” at least once a month. However, the rumor mill whispers that she is difficult to work with and she insulted Shonda Rhime’s writing.

Good Reasons for Leaving A Job

1.      Remember with all of your heart and soul, that “what you want –wants you” otherwise the aching for more would not be in your spirit. Disrespecting where you are and what you have is not going to get you a bigger and better opportunity faster. In fact, lack of gratitude for what you already have will delay or delete your bigger opportunities. Have you ever done something for someone and it is never good enough? Do you want to give them more or less of your time and resources? I believe the Universe works the same way.

2.      Extend yourself and do your absolute best on each assignment, scene, task, or part. This is the only way you will grasp all of the spiritual lessons that you need to learn from your current positon. Remember that you don’t work for your current Employer, you work for an all knowing higher power that knows when you are ready for more. When you leave the platform of skills, talents, and resources that you have acquired will belong to you exclusively. Everything you do—every word you say—you are doing it for YOU. Be able to look your creator / creatress in the eyes upon your last breath and say, “I gave it all I had with what I was given.”

3.       Continue to practice your craft, go to auditions, take small parts that will give you an opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills. When you are not wondering about when and where your next dollar is coming from—you can focus on the next thing you need to learn that will enhance your skill set. When you already have a job, you give off a higher vibration than someone who is desperate. You also have an advantage because you are already doing what others are trying to do. Being on Empire gives, you name recognition.

4.      Don’t develop a reputation of being someone who is difficult to work with. No matter how talented, brilliant, and skillful you are. There is always someone else around the corner waiting to take your place who is smarter, prettier, and easier to work with than you are. Changing jobs before you have developed the spiritual skill set that is required for the next career move can stunt your professional growth in manner that may take decades to recover from. Sometimes it is not our lack of talent or skills that prevents us from moving on to bigger opportunities; it is our inability to connect to and get along with other people. We are all expendable. It is the nature of planet Earth. My mother has always told me, “Be nice to everyone, because the same people you see on the way up-- are the same people you will see on the way down.”

5.       Where you are right now, contains a lesson or skill that you need to master. One of the biggest mistakes that people make is that they assume because they are brilliant or talented, they deserve to be at a higher level. Nevertheless, what I have observed is that the skills they are missing have nothing to do with how intelligent and how talented they are. What I have observed from almost 3 decades of teaching and being a social worker is that people lack personal discipline. They lack the ability to finish a task on time or the ability to be consistent. Some of the smartest people I know had the poorest attendance. Pay attention to the Universe, your lesson may not be to improve your acting skills—your lesson may be something deeper and richer that is between you and your God.

6      Trai, remember, never focus on what you are running away from --  but what you are running to. Have a clear picture in your head of what is the perfect role for you. Maybe you have a script you have been intending to write. Try your hand at directing some of the episodes – if only in your head. Think about how you could do it better and write down your ideas in a journal. This is your secret between you and your higher self. Do something every day that contributes to your vision of your highest version of yourself.

7       I know this sound like a contradiction, of my main point—but if your soul aches and you can’t sleep at night or you are gaining or losing weight—you should most definitely quit your job. If you feel sick just thinking about going to work—you must leave. Maybe Janet Hubert made the right decision to leave the Fresh Prince of Bel Air when she did. Katherine Heigl is not beholden to anyone but herself, she is still young and beautiful. She may blossom as an actor in her golden years like Morgan Freeman—or next year. Nevertheless, if you are unhappy with where you are right now in your life, changing jobs is the right thing to do--however, don’t talk about it—be about it. There should be no rumors about you possibly leaving or-- why you left. It should be obvious to you and everyone else.
