Love Quote of the Day – Being Beautiful is Lonely

 Life Quote of the Day:
“How terrible is it to be beautiful, smart, and strong—but end up being alone every night!”  HPLYRIKZ.com

I have heard so many women talk about how beautiful they are, and how they can get any man they want, and how every man they see is attracted to them… yet they are unable to find and keep a long-term relationship.

On the other hand, some women brag about feeling more attractive than their ex-husband’s or ex-boyfriend’s new wife or girlfriend. They feel that if they are deemed more physically attractive than his current wife or girlfriend this means that they are superior. Therefore, the man has downgraded and suffered a great loss because he has selected a less beautiful woman to fall in love with.

Of course, when women say these things, we as women never say anything back to them. We offer our support, with a high five, and tell our friend, “Yeah girrrl, you run circles around her.” We know our friend is hurting and we don’t want to crush her ego. However, as women we need to start telling each other the truth—in a compassionate and loving way in front of the person’s face—how we really feel.

I think the problem is… that women don’t understand that we are not blow-up dolls, centerfold models, or pin up girls. The beauty standard for eye candy does not apply to a healthy loving relationship whereby two people respect and treat each other as equals.

How you look is not nearly as important as your day-to-day job performance. He doesn’t care if all of his friends think you are gorgeous,-- if you have slept with half of them and flirted with the other half. Maybe he prefers cellulite, wrinkles, love handles, and sagging breasts to lying, cheating, never home, can’t admit when you are wrong, and selfish.

Life Quotes Practical Application

1.      If you are alone, don’t think it is because you are so beautiful that men and women are intimidated by you. If you look in the mirror and the best thing you see about yourself is your reflection—you are in trouble. Based on your attitude and character would you want to date you?

2.    Men have told me that the best intimate relationships that they have ever had, have been with women who most people consider not to be physically attractive based on mainstream standards of beauty. They said that women who think they are cute are the least active in bed because they don’t want to mess up their hair; make unattractive faces, and they think their mere appearance is enough to keep their partner aroused. However, men reported women who are not “mainstream pretty” feel that they have to work for your love and therefore, they contribute more in the bedroom and tend to be excellent lovers.

3.    It is so disrespectful to other women to say, “I can get any man I want.” Even though we don’t say anything back to you when you say this—we are all thinking—except my man--@#$%&. Additionally, we are keeping you at a distance. When women make statements like this they are saying that they are so physically beautiful that no man can resist their sexual advances.

If this is the case, why don’t you use your extraordinary beauty power to keep at least one man interested in you for an extended period of time. As you probably already know, it’s not easy to keep and find love when what makes you truly beautiful are your imperfections, honesty, and vulnerability.

I have heard so many women talk about how beautiful they are, and how they can get any man they want, and how every man they see is attracted to them… yet they are unable to find and keep a long-term relationship… Maybe he prefers cellulite, wrinkles, love handles, and sagging breasts to lying, cheating, never home, can’t admit when you are wrong, and selfish.

Life Quote of the Day - Do Your Best Every Time

Life Quote of the Day:

“Do your best every time because by doing a thing well you build something valuable into yourself.”  Henry Ford

“It will be my pleasure Madame. I shall get it for you right away,” the waiter said in his thick French accent, after I requested a glass of orange juice. This was not the highlight of our trip to Montreal it was the cultural standard that my boyfriend and I encountered everywhere we visited.

In American culture,( generally speaking) there seems to be a shame attached to doing your best on a remedial job that society doesn’t respect. During conversations with maintenance staff, cashiers, and waiters around town, (many but not all) tell me about their other business ventures, how many credits they need before finishing college, or that they are on the waiting list for a better job.

They do not want me to think that this is their permanent or real job—but a pit stop on their path to more prestigious opportunities. The negative stigma that many Americans attach to people who work remedial and minimum wage jobs is reflected back to the consumers via the lackluster services provided by the employees.

One waitress told my boyfriend and I that she was literally 2 seconds from walking off the job. We were afraid to tell her that our order was incorrect. In fear of pissing her off even more, my boyfriend picked the mushrooms out of his omelet when she wasn’t looking.

In essence, since we don’t value a person working a fast food job, why should the fast food employee care if our fries are burnt or cold, or whether our order is correct. We don’t care about them, therefore they do not care about us. From a societal perspective, I understand this macro- societal, collective psychological energy exchange. However, from a spiritual perspective, I think each person’s job performance is a personal reflection of how they feel about themselves—not other people.

My daddy always told my brothers and I that no matter what we do in life to always do our best. It doesn’t matter if you are a street sweeper or garbage man; what matters most is doing the best job possible. If I had to tally up my whippings as a child, I would say that 85% of the time I got in trouble for not washing dishes properly, folding the sheets incorrectly, or missing a spot cleaning the bathroom. The other 15% was for skipping school.

When I was in the third grade, I brought a test home with an A- grade. I proudly showed it to my mother and she asked me why I missed one of the questions out of twenty. I had the highest score in my class, but it wasn’t good enough for my mother. I still remember crying my little self to sleep, whispering, “But I did my best Momma.”

I think at some point, I realized that doing my best in schoolwork was not going to be good enough for my parents, so I chose to do nothing. I started skipping school and church when I was about 8-years-old.

When I reflect back on my life, I realize that I have always had an attitude of all or nothing. When I was bad, I was really bad. I didn’t go to school to earn C’s. I failed semesters and years. I have report cards with all As and all Fs. I have a G.E.D and a doctorate degree. I was so afraid of disappointing my parents with mediocrity, that at a subconscious level I made them extremely happy and extremely sad. I gave them my best.

I didn’t want my children ever feel like their best wasn’t good enough for me.

So, here is what I tell my children about doing their best:

Life Quotes Practical Application

1.      I have always told my children to their best because only from doing their absolute best would they be cable of discovering their gifts and talents. You don’t even know who you are or what you like, if you haven’t given something your all.

2.    Secondly, when you do your best on any task, you are learning a skillset that can be applied to another endeavor—even if it’s something as simple as learning how to be more patient. Everything you do in life is practice for something better, even if the lesson is not obvious.

3.   Thirdly, I told my children that there is more honor in working hard and earning a D- grade than cheating on a test or assignment and receiving an A letter grade. The only person in this world who is capable of ever knowing whether you have done your best on a task is – you and you alone. Always be honest with yourself. Could you have stopped watching videos and studied harder? Only you know the answer to that question.

Life Quote of the Day - No man ever steps in the same river twice

Life Quote of the Day:

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” Heraclitus

Triumph, the first magazine I started was made of six sheets of 11 x 17 paper folded in half. The first business I called over the phone to sell an ad to was a Jerk Chicken Shack listed in an African American Business guide published by the NAACP in Ypsilanti. The owner immediately said, yes. She had not seen the publication. I had never eaten at her restaurant. She said yes before I could read her the script that I had written.

She gave me directions to her restaurant. When I arrived, she reached into her register, gave me a $50 bill, hugged me, and said I wish you the best my sistah in her Jamaican accent. It seems like almost every African American business that I contacted paid for an ad in my little  Triumph Magazine.

I was invited to Barrister’s Balls, political breakfasts and luncheons, as well as celebrity parties. I was so shy that I attended very few functions. I almost fainted when I heard a local radio station discussing my interview with  Evening News Reporter Frank Turner who was fired from channel 7 News at the time. Triumph Magazine had magic from the moment I started it.

I stopped publishing Triumph Magazine because I felt inferior eating at the same table with Mayor Archer, Gil Hill and other major Detroit political officials. I couldn’t handle the success of the magazine. I felt that I didn’t deserve it. So, I decided to go back to school to complete my doctorate degree in psychology.

I completed my degrees, only to find myself yearning for the exhilaration of publishing my own magazine. I longed to sail down the river of my dreams with the wind kissing my face, not knowing where or when it would end or who would be by my side for the ride. I have published several magazines since Triumph but I could never recapture its magical prosperity and whimsical success.

Triumph was a black and white publication because initially I couldn’t afford color ink. Every magazine that I published after Triumph looked more polished and professional with full color pages; however, I was unable to make them profitable.

I tried so many times to step back in to that Triumph River, but every time I jumped in, I nearly drowned.

Life Quotes Practical Application

1.      I hear that one of things that destroy most artists is the desire to surpass their previous success. What they don’t realize is that there were so many variables outside of their control that contributed to their rise to fame and fortune. For example, people in the 60s and 70s played in small and large clubs all over the country. They did not have MTV, YouTube videos, and social media.

These entertainers played in front of live audiences without the help of technology. Many artists today would have never made it under these circumstances. They don’t have the talent or the grit that made the Beetles and the Temptations timeless superstars.

2.    I think one of the secrets to success is finding and respecting the current of the flowing river, that leads you to your dreams. The mystical secret to success that no one really talks about is how unnerving, exciting, frightening, and exhilarating the ride is to everything you ever wanted. It is not as fun as most people think it is.
This is why orgasms only last a few seconds. Even though, I had such a tiny taste of success, I felt that my life was out of control. I didn’t understand why people liked me and what I would have to do to keep them liking me. If I had it to do all over again, I would hold on, enjoy the view, and not worry about why the river chose me.

3.    If there is no flow, let it go. If you are trying to rekindle, recapture, or repeat some amazing experience you had in the past, add a new element to make it special. Usually when we try to relive the past, the moment falls flat because what made it special was the fleeting magical elixir of time and space that will never happen again.
