Christmas Projects for Kids

Christmas Countdown with the
 Jungle Beauty Goddess’s

We have decided to give you an idea of some fun things to do as a family that include a Christmas game for kids that you create that can also be used at a Christmas party.
Collect favorite Christmas memories, gifts given and received, traditions, movies, songs, and television shows. Use this information to create a unique, authentic, Christmas board game for your family, close friends, or work associates.

For example, a Christmas projects for kids would be to have each child write down ten questions; such as:

1.       Who baked the cookies for Santa Claus last year?
2.       What is Timmy’s (write in your child’s name) favorite Christmas cartoon?
3.       What did Uncle Peter give Nancy for Christmas?
4.       Where did we buy the Christmas tree last year?

For young children, you can make questions based off of the Christmas Specials such as “How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Charlie Brown Christmas, and many more. Make Christmas cookies together with your children; curl up with them to watch a few of the Christmas specials, then play the Christmas board game that you created with them. This is not only a fun thing to do together as a family, this is a fun was to reinforce reading comprehension for your child. If the children are older, between the ages of 6 and 10, they can write their own questions to contribute to the game.

For young children your couples should be simple such as “What color was Frosty the Snowman’s scarf?” You may create a more complex game for older children by asking questions like, “What if the Grinch was never bullied as a child. Do you think he would have been a different person? Yes or no, discuss your answer?  You can use the Christmas television programs to teach deeper moral issues.

Christmas Party

For the Christmas Party at work, you may have each employee write 5 or more holiday work-related traditions such as:

1.       Who was John’s secret Santa last year?

2.       Who drank too much egg-nogg and knocked over the Christmas tree?

Of course these are very generic questions but you and your family could be very creative and funny with the questions you come up with.

After you have collected all of the questions either type them in the boxes on the card worksheet form provided here, save as, rename, download and cut out each card; or write them by hand as neatly as possible on index cards.

Next, you need to create a board game and some pieces for each family member to move around the board. You should use Christmas type pieces such as reindeer, snowmen, Christmas trees, stars, mistletoe, tiny candy canes or whatever cultural ornaments are important to you and your family.
You may buy dice or cut out the dice and follow the instructions and tape it together.

Create a board game from card board box (or download template by clicking here> Christmas Board Game)  and every 5-7 spaces write something interesting such as you must go back to the beginning of the game. You stepped on the Grinch’s toe. Or move 5 steps forward for leaving Santa Claus delicious cookies. You get the idea. Write fun things on the landing spaces such as you must sing the first verse of “Silent Night” before you move forward

The main thing you want to remember when creating the Christmas board game is to create fun obstacles that stop players from moving forward or send them backwards; lucky breaks that move them forward; and entertaining fun activities that that they must do such as sing or dance before moving ahead. The winner is the person who makes it around the board first.  This prize could be a Christmas stocking with goodies.

Each player would roll the dice to determine who goes first.  Each time you roll the dice, you pull a card from the deck. If the player knows the answer they move forward based on the number of the dice. Additional instructions may be on the card regarding how many spaces to move forward or backwards based on the answer.

You may also create this as a fun card game. If the player does not know the answer the card describes what he or she must do for points.   You may also create a family Christmas Jeopardy game with categories such as songs, cartoons, movies, etc.

Use these ideas to get the family in the holiday spirit. Each year you can update the Christmas games for kids that they will someday share with their own children.
