Dear Jungle Beauty Goddess Afar,

I am very financially successful, married for 25 years to the most beautiful woman in the world, two boys in college; nothing to complain about per se,… just looking to add a little color to my existence.  I have always wanted to paint, since I was a little boy, but my daddy told me that it would be a waste of time.

He would say, “Boy!  Do you want to end up poor, broke, and destitute? My daddy always said that artistic men aren’t men at all.  Needless to say, I never wanted to disappoint him. He was a man’s man and everybody looked up to him. So I got my Harvard MBA became a CEO of major corporation and lived the script that was given to me.

I buried my daddy yesterday, and for the first time in all the 57 years that I have been on earth I feel like a free man. I am ready to paint now but I don’t know where to begin. I fear that people will laugh at me and my wife will think I am crazy. Besides the fact that I don’t think I have a creative bone in my body.

Do you think I am too old to endeavor in creative activities? Is creative thinking something you are either born with or without?  If it’s not too late for me, what can I do to become more creative?

Sincerely,

Feeling Shades of Blue

Dear Feeling Shades of Blue,

The first and foremost important aspect of creative thinking is to be deeply and intensely in touch with your most honest, raw, ignoble, reprehensible thoughts and emotions. It is impossible to be an authentic artistic of any medium, if you care about what other people think of you. When you listen to music, read a poem, or see a piece of art that stirs your spirit it is because someone was bold enough to remove the layers upon layers of societal rules, laws, morals and expectations others. Sincere art is an expression of a naked soul. This is the person who writes about being in love with his best friend’s wife. There are numerous examples of this sort.

Painting will help you properly grieve your father’s death. If you are happy with all of the other aspects of your life as you stated in your question; your father was not an atrocious monster, --perhaps a man who wanted the best for his son. Even in your father’s death he has given you the gift of having the time, resources—and subject matter to create breathtaking art that many people will be able to relate to and admire. You probably need painting now in your life more than you ever have in the past; you are emerging upon a new identity of a man with nothing to prove to anyone.

It’s never too late to embark on a creative project. Humans are creative beings whether you are creating babies, pizza, light bulbs, social media, snowmen, or mud pies. All humans possess creativity. The only difference in creativity-- is that some people were raised in homes where creativity was nurtured and celebrated and others were reared in homes where it was frowned upon and criticized --such as yourself.

The first thing you need to do is untether your soul’s artistic expression by unblocking your second chakra located one inch below your navel. This sacral chakra’s vortex light is orange and it governs creativity, reproduction, passion and emotions.  From your question it appears that your father was overbearing; and therefore, you grew up in a home where you were fearful of expressing your true emotions which is directly connected to your creativity.

Orange is a very powerful color so you must be very careful not to over stimulate your second chakra that could lead excessive behaviors such as crossing sexual boundaries, overeating, and being emotionally unstable.  Gemstones that stimulate this chakra include carnelians, fire opals, orange moonstones, and vanadenite. Move your pelvis area in circles or try hula hooping. It would be best to balance all of your chakras because you don’t want to move a block from one chakra that could block or overstimulate another chakra, but I don’t want to overwhelm you with too much information.

Go to Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Joann’s or a local art store and buy some art supplies. Since it’s your first time, ask the store clerk for assistance. Find a location in your home or nature that arouses your senses. Select a time of day when you will not be disturbed by any one. Your first painting should be an expression of what it was like to grow up with man like your father. Close your eyes and see your emotions as colors. What color is his voice? Is this a long stroke with a fat brush? Do you throw paint on the canvas or do you use your hold hand or your fingertips to glide the paint on its surface? Imagine when you were a little boy who wanted to paint. What color is your heart?  Find music that gives you chills to play in the background at you paint. You get the picture.

Water is the element of the second chakra. When you shower, take a bathe, or swim in a pond pay attention to the ideas that surface. Keep a pen or pencil nearby to jot down your ideas. Passionate sex with your wife will also get your creative juices going. Try making love in a new exciting location. Play dress up in the bedroom and eat only orange foods. Buy books on how to enhance your love life. Ask your wife to let you paint a nude picture of her.

Lady Gaga said, “When you make music or write or create, it’s really your job to have mind-blowing, irresponsible, condomless sex with whatever idea it is you’re writing about at the time.”

Remember: Sincere art is an expression of a naked soul.
